Duterte Places Cebu City Under ECQ

DUTERTE: "Ang enhanced community quarantine, Cebu City. It's only you.”

Duterte extends ECQ in Cebu City until July 15 in his address to the nation on the updates of the quarantine status in the Philippines on June 30, 2020, Tuesday.

President Rodrigo Duterte has approved the extension of enhanced community quarantine (ECQ) placed over Cebu City until July 15 during his address on Tuesday.

"This is the highest [level of quarantine] because there are already so many people infected [there]. As a matter of fact, we know that the hospitals and everything there are having a hard time coping up," Duterte said, speaking partly in Filipino, in a televised address on Tuesday.

"Ang enhanced community quarantine, Cebu City. It's only you," he added.

Cebu City has so far recorded about 5,494 COVID-19 cases with 169 deaths and 2,723 recoveries, as per the Department of Health Regional Office 7's latest tally.

Last week, the President ordered Environment Secretary Roy Cimatu to oversee government efforts to fight COVID-19 in Cebu City to help limit and contain the spread of the CoronaVirus.

Duterte also earlier attributed the spike of COVID-19 cases in the city to its "complacency."

Nationwide, 37,514 COVID-19 cases have been recorded to date, with 1,266 deaths and 10,233 recoveries.

Lenticular Clouds Shrouds Mt Mayon Summit

Legazpi City, Albay - Pancake Clouds cover the summit of Mt. Mayon in the City Of Legazpi in the Province of Albay pictured by a cyclist on a rainy day on Friday. This was captured during the early morning hours of that day, June 26, 2020.

It shrouded the summit of the well-known volcano in Albay Province, welcoming locals to a picturesque morning

Lenticular clouds also known as pancake clouds are usually observed in mountainous regions. According to NASA, the clouds are formed when moist air is forced upwards near a mountain or a volcano.

Meanwhile, Phivolcs maintains that Alert Level 2 currently prevails over Mayon because the volcano is at a moderate level of unrest. This prevents climbers from reaching the summit and inside the danger zone around the crater of the volcano.

STATEMENT OF GOV. GWENDOLYN GARCIA on June 27, 2020

Cebu City, Philippines - Here is the statement of Province of Cebu Governor, Gov Gwendolyn Fiel Garcia on a video clip that circulated online on the 5 months of serious handling of the CoViD-19 Crisis

===========
June 27, 2020

A video clip being circulated online is highlighting a few seconds out of the five months of serious handling of the pandemic.

It is taking my words out of context in a malicious attempt to discredit my efforts to protect the Cebuanos from Covid-19 and from the hopelessness that there is still no cure or vaccine.

I have been consistent in advocating for tu-ob or steam inhalation only as one of many other health regimens. Buhat ang pasulti-on. If I had really touted it as a cure for Covid, then my actions would have been to consistently announce daily that we were able to beat all of the world’s experts in discovering the magic cure.  But I did not.

I signed Executive Order No. 17 last May 19 stating that all persons within the Province of Cebu are “encouraged to boost their immune system.” Under that is subsection 9.7 stating: “When needed,” perform steam inhalation or tu-ob twice daily.

I thank those who gave testimonies about their experience with tu-ob’s health benefits. Even virologists from the University of Edinburgh have not closed their doors on home remedies against Covid.

There are those who viciously attack tu-ob and my advocacy for this home remedy without presenting proof that it is indeed harmful aside from the possibility of burns. I thank all of them too, for they have unwittingly placed tu-ob at the center of the nation’s attention.

Because of the fierce objections, people who were neutral might just now be curious enough to try it for themselves.

J&T Express Threatens To Sue People on 'Malicious' Posts

Manila, Philippines - An embattled cargo and freight company, J&T Express is threatening to go on the offensive mode against the publuc making “malicious” social media posts about the firm, which suffered public backlash over staff who mishandled packages, especially those caught on viral video online earlier in the week.

“It has come to our attention that malicious posts and resolved cases have been posted, compromising the welfare of our thousands of employees nationwide as well as their families,” J&T Express Philippines said in a statement.

“We are monitoring all platforms available and will take necessary actions legally,” the company added.

The Indonesia-based firm, which opened business in the Philippines only in March of the year 2019, is facing a PR crisis after a video made rounds in social media showing some of their employees carelessly tossing packages for delivery to a truck, at the risk of damaging potential fragile cargoes.

On Monday, the company sought to pacify angry customers, saying the firm does “not tolerate such acts and behavior, and we humbly take responsibility for this incident.”

But the public apology did not put J&T Express out of the woods, and instead more people prompted the release of more incriminating images against the company.

In one of those images, a parcel was seen resting above a moving J&T Express delivery truck. Netizens also shared an photo of supposed job postings from J&T Express dated June 3 urgently looking for a PR manager as the company’s problems escalated.

On its statement on Friday, J&T Express also reminded the public “to practice their freedom of speech responsibly, and with the right thinking.”

“We have our hotline and social media accounts working round-the-clock so that we can attend to all your concerns immediately,” it added.

Started in Indonesia in 2015, J&T Express has established presence in 6 Southeast Asian countries. Apart from the Indonesia and the Philippines, the company also has foothold in Malaysia, Vietnam, Thailand and most recently, Singapore.

In the Philippines, J&T Express has over 400 branches and warehouses and employs around 10,000 people, according to information on its website.
