Coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19), also known as the coronavirus, or COVID, is a contagious disease caused by severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus 2 (SARS-CoV-2). The first known case was identified in Wuhan, China, in December 2019.[7] The disease has since spread worldwide, leading to an ongoing pandemic.[8]

COVID-19 affects different people in different ways. Most infected people will develop mild to moderate illness and recover without hospitalization.
Most common symptoms:
fever
dry cough
tiredness
Less common symptoms:
aches and pains
sore throat
diarrhoea
conjunctivitis
headache
loss of taste or smell
a rash on skin, or discolouration of fingers or toes

On this 3rd day of the new year, the DFA reports a total of 16 new COVID-19 cases, 16 new recoveries, and no new fatality among Filipinos in the Asia Pacific, the Americas, and Middle East and Africa over the previous week. There were more recoveries than new cases recorded.
The DFA, together with its Foreign Service Posts, remains fully committed to monitoring and assisting our nationals abroad amidst the ongoing fight against the pandemic and its new variants.

The DFA reports a total of 17 new COVID-19 cases, 14 new recoveries, and 1 new fatality among Filipinos abroad over the previous week. The Department did not receive new COVID-19 case reports from Europe.
