TROPICAL CYCLONE: ALERT

THE LOW PRESSURE AREA EAST OF MINDANAO HAS DEVELOPED INTO TROPICAL DEPRESSION "ULYSSES".
Track and Intensity Outlook
On the forecast track, Tropical Depression “ULYSSES” will move generally northwestward tonight through Tuesday morning. Afterwards, it is forecast to turn westward and head towards the Bicol Region. A landfall over the Bicol Region area on Wednesday is likely at this time. Over the next three days, “ULYSSES” is forecast to intensify and is likely to reach Tropical Storm category within 24 to 36 hours. It may reach Typhoon category on Wednesday prior to landfall.
Hazards affecting land areas
“ULYSSES” is currently not directly causing severe weather over any portion of the country at this time. It is likely that the winds and rainfall associated with this tropical cyclone will begin affecting portions of Eastern Visays and Bicol Region beginning on Tuesday or Wednesday. Based on available data, Tropical Cyclone Wind Signal #1 may be raised over some localities in Bicol Region or Eastern Visayas as early as tomorrow evening or Tuesday morning in anticipation of the onset of strong breeze to near gale conditions associated with “ULYSSES”.
Hazards affecting coastal waters
In the next 24 hours, the combined effects of the circulation of “ULYSSES” and the prevailing easterlies will bring moderate to rough seas (1.5 to 2.5 m) over the eastern seaboards of the country. Mariners of small seacrafts are advised to take precautionary measures when venturing out to sea. Inexperienced mariners should avoid navigating in these conditions.
Location of eye/center At 10:00 PM today, the center of Tropical Depression "ULYSSES" was estimated based on all available data at 800 km East of Hinatuan, Surigao del Sur (09.0°N, 133.6°E).
Strength Maximum sustained winds of 45 km/h near the center and gustiness of up to 55 km/h.
Movement Moving Northwestward at 15 km/h.

• 120 Hour (Friday evening):765 km West of Calapan City, Oriental Mindoro (OUTSIDE PAR) (13.9°N, 114.1°E)

The public and the disaster risk reduction and management council concerned are advised to take appropriate actions and watch for the next update to be incorporated in the 4 AM Public Weather Forecast and in the next Severe Weather Bulletin to be issued at 11 AM tomorrow.
